Being on the run and knowing that there is no big problem even though there is a problem, is comforting, liberating and inspiring. The safety function protects you while you are running and calls for help when you – because of e.g. an accident – are not in the position to do so.

The Safety function, ONplusultra communities and your sense of security.

How does the Safety function help?

The safety function is like an invisible partner running with you, watching your every step! Let’s see how!

While running, it is not just you on the move, but also your phone and the ON+ application. The Safety function registers movement or the lack of it. When you stop moving, the software is programmed to presume that something is wrong, and based on the timeframe you have set in the App, it will send an alarm to a person or several people you have selected. The message sent also includes your exact coordinates so help can find you quickly!

After your run, you can use the Safety function to post your activity to your ON+ community, which not only notifies your community that you have safely reached your target, but also encourages and motivates others to do more sports!

Stopping time and notification time – The main attributes of the Safety function

The Safety function accompanies you in your sports, and when you have finished your activity, you can cancel it with a click of a button. Before you start using it, there are some settings to adjust to rely on notifications and also to avoid false alarms.

Stoppage time in the Safety function

Let’s start with the stoppage time, the period that causes you to stop your exercise, for refreshments or to make a quick photo.

Let’s take 2 minutes: this means the application will not send an alarm message for 2 minutes into stopping. If the 2 minutes expire, and you still have not resumed your exercise, then you will get a flashing and beeping warning on your phone with a question having 3 possible outcomes.

Notification time in the Safety function

Depending on your own settings, you can set how much time you give yourself to answer the above question. In case you surpass the timeframe you allow by not pressing any option, the Safety function automatically sends a message to the contact(s) you previously defined.

Setting contacts in the Safety function

For the safety function to work properly you need to set at least one person, who can be contacted in case of an emergency. You can set this up by:

  1. finding the person on the ON+ surface and selecting them as “Followings”,
  2. once the person responds, you can set them up as contact,
  3. when going on a run with the Safety function turned on, they will be notified and asked for permission. If you want the Safety function to act as your guardian angel during your exercise, your contact needs to confirm your request. If this does not happen, because they are busy, you can cancel the request and select another contact.
  4. If an emergency arises during your run /exercise/, a notification will go to the selected contact. The message contains your GPS coordinates as well as a map view to make it easy to find you. In case you finished your day’s activity, you can post it in your feed, and your emergency contact gets an additional notification that you have safely arrived.

The ONplusultra application allows you to select more than 1 emergency contact, which also means that all of them will receive a notification when starting your exercise.

Allowing GPS tracking when using the Safety function

As the Safety function in ON+ not only monitors your current location but the coordinates of your whole exercise, it’s important that you allow the App to use GPS tracking.
